Myanmar — The Junta That Bombs Its Own People

Since the 2021 military coup, Myanmar’s junta has waged a campaign of unimaginable violence against its own people. Over 100,000 civilian homes have been destroyed in arson attacks. 3.6 million people are displaced, and nearly 22 million require humanitarian assistance. When a massive earthquake struck in March 2025, the junta blocked relief efforts in areas outside their control and even escalated their attacks, launching more airstrikes on civilian targets than any previous quarter. Schools, clinics, monasteries, and displacement camps have all been bombed. The junta is now planning sham elections, with opposition leaders arrested, detained, tortured or executed.
