What If History Took A Different Turn? 5 Alternate Realities That Will Break Your Brain

What If The Internet Had No Algorithms?

Imagine a world without algorithms curating your feed. No “For You” page. No recommended videos. No invisible hand guiding your attention.

Feeds would be slower, flatter, even mundane. Polarisation would ease. Virality would cool. The engineered emotional high that keeps us scrolling would dissipate. Without algorithms to moderate content and combat misinformation, we’d have to rely on critical thinking and media literacy instead.

In this timeline, social media is just a tool, not a weapon. The outrage economy never took off. The attention wars never happened. We’d be less divided, less anxious, and significantly less addicted to our screens.
