Back in the day, nobody blinked when a 45‑year‑old movie star started dating a teenage girl. It was just “Hollywood.” But looking back through modern eyes, some of these so‑called romances are absolutely chilling. From a 26‑year gap involving a minor to a rock star who openly bragged about groupies, here are five age gaps that would spark outrage faster than you can say “grooming.”

Roman Polanski & Nastassja Kinski – 26 Years

""

Director Roman Polanski was 43 when he began a relationship with 17‑year‑old Nastassja Kinski, a vulnerable actress he cast in his film Tess. Polanski later fled the United States after pleading guilty to unlawful sex with a 13‑year‑old, making this pairing feel less like romance and more like a pattern. Today, a man nearly three decades older than a teenager would be universally condemned, not celebrated.

Cary Grant & Sophia Loren – 24 Years

""

Handsome, charming Cary Grant was 47 when he co‑starred with a 23‑year‑old Sophia Loren, and their off‑screen flirtation made headlines. While Loren was a consenting adult, the 24‑year gap would still raise eyebrows today – especially because Grant was old enough to be her father. Modern Hollywood would likely brand the dynamic as “creepy” rather than “romantic.”

Jimmy Page & Lori Mattix – 25 Years

""

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page was 28 when he began a “relationship” with 14‑year‑old Lori Mattix, a notorious groupie. Page openly kept her in his Hollywood mansion, yet the rock press at the time treated it as a wild rock‑star story, not a crime. By today’s standards, a grown man dating a middle‑schooler is called statutory rape, plain and simple.

Elvis Presley & Priscilla Presley – 10 Years

""

A decade might not sound huge, but Elvis was 24 and Priscilla was just 14 when they first met in Germany. She moved into Graceland at 16, and the relationship was carefully managed by the Presley family until she turned 21. Today, a superstar grooming a teenager under his roof would trigger CPS, fan protests, and likely a criminal investigation.

Ted Nugent & Pele Massa – 30 Years

""

Rock wildman Ted Nugent was a married 38‑year‑old when he began “mentoring” 16‑year‑old Pele Massa, whom he later took as his legal ward and then married. Nugent has openly admitted the relationship started when she was underage, framing it as a “love story.” In 2025, that admission would be career suicide, landing Nugent in court – not on stage.
