Google Street View has given us the power to explore nearly every corner of the planet from our couches—which means we’ve also stumbled upon some truly weird stuff along the way. From glitches that chop people in half to intentional art installations that look like zombie apocalypse scenes, the mapping service has accidentally documented humanity at its strangest. Here are seven of the most bizarre Google Maps street view images that prove reality is often weirder than fiction.

Somewhere in the world, a man was captured attempting to ski down a grassy hill with absolutely no snow in sight. Was he training for a glacier? Did he miss the memo that winter ended? The image raises more questions than answers—namely, whether he eventually realized grass has significantly more friction than powder, or if he committed to the bit all the way down.

At coordinates 65.09298,28.90316 along Highway 5 in Suomussalmi, Finland, Google Maps captures what looks like a gathering of zombies or a cult awaiting instructions. In reality, it’s “The Silent People” (Hiljainen kansa), an art installation by Finnish artist Reijo Kela featuring nearly 1000 human-like figures with hay heads and donated clothing. The artist refuses to explain the meaning, preferring viewers to interpret the eerie scene themselves—and yes, you can even spend a free night in the nearby hay barn if you’re brave enough.

On a sidewalk near Mitaka Station in Tokyo, a group of people wearing realistic pigeon masks was deliberately waiting for the Google Street View camera to pass by. The prank was organized by Japanese comedy site Daily Portal Z, whose writers had been using the masks for absurd photos throughout the city. The Street View backpacker capturing the images didn’t even flinch, simply documenting the human flock like it was a completely normal Tuesday in Japan.

Near downtown Anchorage, Alaska, Google’s cameras captured two smartly dressed people walking down the street—except only their legs are visible from the upper thighs down. One appears to be carrying a black bag that floats mysteriously next to the disembodied limbs. The explanation is far less sinister than it looks: Google’s 360-degree cameras stitch multiple images together, and moving objects get chopped up in the process. A nearby man with a backpack suffered the opposite fate—he has a full upper body but no legs whatsoever.

Someone in Ontario decided their backyard needed a permanent, unsettling gathering of mannequins arranged around the swimming pool. Several plastic figures lounge poolside while one floats motionless in the water, creating a scene that looks like the opening shot of a horror movie. Whether this was an art statement, a prank on Google, or someone’s genuine aesthetic choice remains a mystery—but it’s definitely not the pool party you want to accidentally wander into.

Two men in India were spotted casually transporting a full dentist’s chair down a public street, presumably delivering it to someone’s home or office. The image captures the kind of everyday absurdity that makes you wonder about the backstory—was someone getting a home dental setup? Was it stolen? Did they find it on the side of the road and think, “This will look great in my living room”? We may never know.

Another classic Google Maps glitch gave us a man in a Ramones t-shirt whose lower body simply ceased to exist. Captured mid-stride with only his torso, head, and arms visible, he appears to float mysteriously above the ground like a punk rock ghost. The camera stitching gremlins struck again, turning an ordinary pedestrian into a supernatural phenomenon that would make Joey Ramone proud.

Google Street View has given us the power to explore nearly every corner of the planet from our couches—which means we’ve also stumbled upon some truly weird stuff along the…

[1,2,9

post-859","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-exclusives","category-photo-vault","category-weird-world
["GET
