The Most Unsettling Historical Photos Taken Moments Before Disaster

Essa Ricker and Kelsea Webster Train Track Selfie

This selfie captures two young women, Essa Ricker and Kelsea Webster, along with Kelsea’s sister, Savannah, smiling brightly on a train track in Spanish Fork Canyon, Utah, in 2011. The photo inadvertently documents the approach of a second, high-speed Union Pacific train from the opposite direction, clearly visible in the top corner. Distracted by the first passing train, the girls were unable to hear or move away from the second, which struck them, resulting in the tragic deaths of all three.
